I am Alireza Rostami, an architect by discipline and a ceramic artist by soul.


My work is a continuous dialogue between the macro-scale of architectural structures and the micro-scale of hand-formed clay.

I believe that a space is not truly ‘built’ until it has a soul, and an object is not truly ‘crafted’ until it understands the space it inhabits. In my world, these two paths are inseparable: my architectural eye seeks the structural logic in clay, while my ceramic hands seek the tactile warmth in architecture.

Brick, Light, and the Unity of Becoming

From Iranian Architecture to Luster Glazed Ceramic Forms

For me, brick begins with earth, but it finds meaning in light. Between architecture and ceramics, brick becomes a shared language — a language capable of shaping space as well as form, of defining habitation and contemplation alike. What binds me to brick is not its apparent simplicity, but its infinite capacity for transformation: earth becoming structure, material becoming meaning, and form becoming lived experience.

Throughout the history of Iranian architecture, brick has existed in a profound dialogue with light. At times it stands and guides light; at other moments, consciously and humbly, it withdraws to allow light to emerge. The architectural patterns of Fakhr and Madin are clear manifestations of this gesture — where brick gains meaning not through self-display, but through making light visible. Here, light is not decorative; it is the essence of space, and brick, through repetition, void, and distance, enables its presence. This act of stepping aside is itself a form of creation.

My luster glazed ceramics continue this logic. Earth, fire, and metal converge into surfaces that both reflect light and absorb it. The metallic sheen is not merely an aesthetic quality; it is a medium for light’s movement. Light slides across the surface, shifts with time and position, and reveals the work anew in each moment. In this condition, the form is no longer static — it becomes animated through light.

In the Gilako renovation, windows were reimagined as vibrant filters of energy. These decorative glass panels balance the need for privacy from the street with a desire to infuse the interior with a rhythmic flow of color. By transforming light into a lived experience, the project elevates spatial quality and breathes new soul into the dining environment.

I release the light trapped within its silence. Every piece is a testament to the moment when earth ceases to be matter and begins to be spirit.
